State Chief Information Officer and California Department of Technology (CDT) Director Liana Bailey-Crimmins and State Chief Technology Officer Jonathan Porat will give keynote addresses at the upcoming Forum on Emerging Technologies on December 5th in Sacramento. The two speeches will preview and outline California’s technology focus and direction, providing critical insight for the government technology community.

Following a landmark year of initiatives related to GenAI kicked off by Governor Gavin Newsom’s Executive Order N-12-23, the two CDT executives will share vital information about upcoming activities, policy enhancements, and the overall statewide vision as California plans for 2025 and beyond.

This year, the Newsom Administration led initiatives ranging from California’s recent GenAI Innovator Showcase, which allowed state agencies to explore AI applications for government use, to broader efforts that included structured risk assessments, workforce training, and proof-of-concept trials with California-based tech companies.

The state also created partnerships with universities and developed reporting tools and ethical guidelines to ensure transparency, security, and responsible GenAI deployment across state operations.

Hosted by TechCA at the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center in Sacramento, the day-long forum will feature a program focused on innovation and emerging government technologies, featuring lightning talks, panel discussions, and speeches by California technology leaders.

Public and private sector professionals are invited to participate in a lively discussion about the fast-changing world of government technology, including essential topics related to artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, user-centered design, iterative and continuous improvements, procurement modernization, and more. The event starts at 8:30 am on December 5th, held at SAFE Credit Union Convention Center in Sacramento.
