New Microsoft tool identifies digital equity gaps in California

Microsoft’s Digital Equity Dashboard, a new interactive dataset, offers one of the most complete and granular pictures of digital equity in California to date.

Created by Microsoft’s AI for Good Lab, the dashboard includes a Census-tract by Census-tract exploration of the Digital Divide in the United States. The dashboard examines twenty different indicators of digital equity — such as broadband access, usage, education, and poverty rates, aggregating public data from the Census Bureau, FCC, BroadbandNow and Microsoft’s own broadband usage data.

Our hope is that this dashboard will empower California leaders to implement programs that foster sustainable and inclusive economic opportunity and deliver on the fundamental need to close the Digital Divide.
