Published On: September 17, 2023

The TechCA Legislative Committee has finalized its legislative principles for artificial intelligence as part of the association’s legislative platform for 2023.   Development of the high-level policy positions started on May 16, followed by workgroup sessions and monthly committee meetings in June and July.  The principles will help guide discussions between the TechCA government relations team and legislators on bills related to the oversight and implementation of artificial intelligence in California.  They include:

  1. Support and enable policies to ensure AI will improve people’s lives while protecting human rights and the environment.
  1. Support and enable policies that are transparent and explainable, so people can understand how tools work and affect them.
  1. Support and enable policies that promote fairness and inclusivity and provide mechanisms for challenges against unfair outcomes.
  1. Support and enable policies that ensure AI systems are used responsibly and ethically.
  1. Support and enable policies that ensure privacy and security.
  1. Support and enable the appointment of a State Chief AI Officer or equivalent position.
  1. Support and enable policies that promote AI skills among the current and future workforce.
