TechCA Establishes Certification Standards for Members
The Technology Industry Association of California (TechCA) has adopted new certification standards, designed to help small businesses highlight their experience serving California government agencies. While never to be used as a state contracting requirement, the certification is intended to serve as a marketing badge for companies that have demonstrated a track record of partnering with the government.
The TechCA Certification Program was officially approved by the association’s Advisory Council on August 8, following more than a year of discussion, feedback, and member engagement. The standards were developed in collaboration with the Small Business Committee, which most recently met on July 16, and were presented during the association’s annual meeting on August 15, 2025.
Led by the Small Business Committee, a new logo will be designed for certified members to include in marketing materials.
The program was initiated in July 2024 when TechCA members proposed a framework for identifying vendors with demonstrated experience. After a series of discussions, surveys, and member updates throughout the year, the association voted to reach consensus on minimum eligibility standards, which are objective and easily verifiable.
TechCA also gathered input from state officials throughout the development of the new program.
The requirements apply to Corporate Members. Associate Members are not required to meet the new standards.
The association will hire a firm to evaluate applications and has developed a process for companies to appeal decisions.
